Adult Mental Health Needs in California: Findings from the 2007 California Health Interview Survey

Abstract

This report provides a comprehensive overview of the mental health needs, status, use of mental health services, and comorbidities of adults in California. It looks at key indicators associated with mental health needs, such as gender, socioeconomic and insurance status, and other health conditions. Using data from the 2007 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS 2007), this report finds that approximately 8.3% of adults residing in California, or 2.2 million people, reported having mental health needs. Within this group, striking disparities emerged that may help health providers and others effectively target programs and services to those most in need.
