Abstract
The thesis describes work by the artist and locates his semantic, semiotic, and philosophical interests. By describing photographs by Jacob Riis, Walker Evans, and Minor White, the thesis suggests the inherent complexity of the photographic medium and it's paradoxical capacity to manufacture index and suggest metaphor concurrently.
