Collecting Sea Palms: Planning for Sustainable Use in a Variable Environment

Abstract

Sea palm harvesting is a largely unregulated cottage industry centered along the rugged rocky coast of Sonoma County, California. The project's scientists tested different harvesting practices to identify those that were most sustainable, given the plant’s growth and reproductive cycles.
