Abstract

The performance of pulsed photothermal radiometry (PPTR) depth profiling of the laser-induced temperature rise in port wine stain (PWS) birthmark on human skin was investigated. The laser-induced temperature profile from simulated PPTR signals was reconstructed using an iterative, non-negatively constrained conjugate gradient algorithm. The effects of the structural, experimental and algorithm parameters on the temperature profile reconstruction were also analyzed. It was observed that a good reconstruction could be obtained, when the melanin and epidermal temperature rise and PWS layers were physically discrete.
