The surfaces are still; pots and utensils hold a tense calm. A knife slathered in peanut butter sits on the counter. You had a pb&j sandwich before falling asleep. And some extra peanut butter. You're not supposed to call it "your bathroom," but no one else uses it. Your toothbrush and hairbrush reside in dusty cabinets. There's a pretty snazzy toilet. You don't need it. Strange, since you just woke up from a however-long nap. You could take a shower, but you won't. What kind of fool takes showers? At whatever hour this is? Besides, the water takes forever to heat up. Or it just, y'know, never does. Then you'd have a cold shower on your hands. A fatal mistake. Though the truth of why you won't shower is just that you don't want to miss your mom getting home. It's a white popcorn ceiling. You've spent a lot of time staring up so that it takes the shape of familiar faces. One spot looks like a cat. Now that you look at it, you wonder if your feet might dangle off the end. Weird. You're still pretty small. It'll be a long time before that happens. You consider just going to bed, but you don't think you'd be able to sleep. They're towering mushrooms with a green luminescense that grow brighter and brighter still that you can no longer see. Speckles of light and dust flit to and fro across your field of vision. It's all you can see.
