Okay, I'll go through everything one more time.
Three weeks ago my best friend, Nathan, was found dead in his home out in the country.
After about a week of investigating, the police ruled his death as a suicide. But I don't believe it, Nathan was at one his best points of his life, he wouldn't do that out of no where.
Something just seems off about his death, so I'm going to his house and investigate myself.
9:30pm...[[it's time to head out.->Arriving to House]]I enter my car, start it up, and start driving the Nathan's house.
After about ten minutes I leave the main city limits and start heading toward the countryside.
Another half-hour goes by and I start approaching his house, it looks just the same as it always has.
I pull into the property, park my car and exit it.
I take a look around, it's dark of course, good thing I brought a flashlight.
Okay, let's do this.
I should start looking inside the [[house.->House]]
Or maybe I should just head back home and [[forget about this.->Giving Up]]I head inside the house, it's a simple two bedroom and one bathroom home with a nice living room, kitchen, dining and a small laundry room.
I'm standing in the small entry way where I can see the [[living room->Living Room]] to my left, the [[dining room->Dining Room]] to my right and the [[hallway->Hallway]] straight ahead.
Or maybe I should go back [[outside->Outside]].I take a look around the property, along with the house there is a small lot to the side.
I walk over to the lot and scan the area. I can see a [[basketball hoop->Basketball Hoop]] ahead of me and a couple [[lawn chairs with a table->Lawn Chairs]] to my right.
Or maybe I should just forget about this and [[go home.->Giving Up]]In the living room I see a few pieces of furniture.
There is the [[small couch->Couch]], the [[TV on its stand->TV Stand]] against the wall, and a [[bookshelf->Bookshelf]] situated against the left wall.
[[Go back.->House]]I walk over to the dining room, here I can see the [[dinner table->Dinner Table]], with a few [[chairs->Dining Chairs]], and also the [[kitchen->Kitchen]], which is to my left.
[[Go back.->House]]I enter the short hallway, there are three doors, one on my left and two on my right.
The one on the left is [[Nathan's bedroom->Nathan's Room]], one door on the right is the [[bathroom->Bathroom]] and the other one is the second [[bedroom->2nd Bedroom]].
All these rooms should be worth looking around in.
[[Go back.->House]]I open the door, Nathan's room looks the same as it always has, he never really was one for redecorating.
There's his [[bed->Nathan's Bed]] on the right by the [[window->Bedroom Window]], his [[desk->Desk]] straight ahead, and the [[closet->Closet]] to my left.
[[Go back.->Hallway]]I enter the second bedroom. Nathan only had this as a guest room, so nobody really stayed in it that often.
Off to the right is a [[twin sized bed->Guest Bed]], straight ahead is a [[dresser->Dresser]] and to the left is a [[sliding glass door->Sliding Door]] to the backyard.
[[Go back.->Hallway]]I enter the bathroom, it's a simple one, with the [[bathtub and shower->Bathtub]] off to the right, the toilet situated diagonally to the left, and the sink and [[medicine cabinet->Medicine Cabinet]] straight ahead.
[[Go back.->Hallway]]I walk into the kitchen, there's a few appliances, [[counter tops->Counter Tops]] and several [[cabinets->Kitchen Cabinets]] around.
Nathan kept it simple, he has a [[fridge->Fridge]], [[stove->Stove]], microwave, and a dishwasher.
[[Go back.->Dining Room]]Nathan's bed, the covers look like they were flung across the mattress. Was he in rush to get up in the middle of the night? He might have been woken up by something... but what exactly?
[[Back out.->Nathan's Room]]I open the closet doors and I'm shocked to see that the whole thing is a mess, like a mini-tornado came through it.
What the hell? Why is his closet like this? Nathan was always a pretty well organized guy, he wouldn't let his closet get like this.
The police said that there was nothing out of the ordinary in his room, so they must have thought that this was normal. But it's not.
[[I have to look into this.->Looking Closer - Closet]]Nathan's desk, on top of it sits his [[laptop->Laptop]], a printer, a lamp, a [[planner->Planner]] and a cup of pens and pencils. There's also a [[drawer->Desk Drawer]] to the right.
[[Back out.->Nathan's Room]]The guest bed, I've used it a few times before whenever I came over here and ended up sleeping over.
However, it's been a while since anyone slept over, the bed is neatly made and has a thin layer of dust on the covers and the pillows.
[[Back out.->2nd Bedroom]]I take a look outside the window, I can see the the backyard.
There's the patio, the grill, the outdoor table and chairs and of course the fire pit, nothing out of the ordinary.
[[Back out.->Nathan's Room]]Looking at this mess closer I can tell that someone was rummaging through it, probably looking for something.
But who was going through the closet and why? Was it Nathan or someone else?
Whatever they were looking for, they didn't find it because it doesn't look like anything is missing.
I better keep a mental note of this.
[[Back out.->Nathan's Room]]I open up the laptop and turn it on.
No password, how convenient.
I open the web browser and look at his search history. He was looking up plane tickets to New York, that's half way across the country. Why would Nathan be going there, was he going to take a vacation?
I'll remember this it might have something to do with his death.
[[Back out.->Desk]]I pick up the planner and notice a bookmark, so I open to that page.
The week that was marked was a little over a month back, some time before Nathan died.
There is a lot written down on this week.
Monday: "Go to the department store and buy a nice outfit."
Tuesday: "Pick up J from the airport."
Wednesday: "Go to the family gathering".
Thursday: "Attend Mom's funeral".
Friday: "Meet with Mom's lawyer to discuss the will".
My God... Nathan told me he'd be busy that week, but he never mentioned this. His mom passsed away and he had to discuss her will. But, who's J? A family member maybe?
I turn the page and notice a sticky note stuck on the next page. It says...
"Reminder: Bury the box under the stone next to the house."
A box, huh? Is there something important in it?
[[Back out.->Desk]]I open the desk drawer and there is only a few loose reciepts and some pens, but something is not right.
Nathan always bragged about how he kept a hunting knife in his desk drawer for home defense. So, shouldn't it be in here? Where could it be?
[[Back out.->Desk]]The sliding door has a clear view of the backyard.
[[Try opening the door.->Opening the Glass Door]]
[[Look Outside.->Looking Outside]]The old dresser that Nathan meant for guests to use. There is a layer of dust on top of it.
There are [[four drawers->Dresser Drawers]] in it, I'm not sure if there is anything in them.I try opening the glass door, and surprised of how easily it opened.
I look down at the handle and see that its in the locked position. Wait, how did it open if it was supposed to be locked?
Upon further inspection I see that the lock mechanism on the door is broken.
Did someone force it open? You would need a crowbar or something in order to do that. This could mean that someone broke in.
[[Back out.->2nd Bedroom]]I take a look outside the the glassdoor, I can see the the backyard.
I can see the patio, the grill, the outdoor table and chairs and of course the fire pit, nothing out of the ordinary.
[[Back out.->Sliding Door]]I open all of the dresser drawers, and there is nothing in them except a T-shirt and a pair of socks that I left behind about eight months ago.
Man, I really should have taken these back at some point.
[[Back out.->2nd Bedroom]]I open the medicine cabinet, and a bunch of pill bottles fall out of it.
It looks like they were all just thrown in there, or maybe someone was looking through it.
[[Back out.->Bathroom]]I open the shower curtain and take a gander around the bathtub.
There's only a few shampoo and body wash bottles on the corners. Nothing to really take note of.
[[Back out.->Bathroom]]The table is relatively small, there's room for about four people.
On the table is a [[napkin holder->Napkin Holder]] but nothing else.
[[Back out.->Dining Room]]I pick up and the napkin holder and there's nothing under it except for a few crumbs.
[[Back out.->Dinner Table]]There are four chairs around the table, the two on the right look normal. However the two on the left look odd.
Looking at the two left chairs a little closser I can see that the metal on the legs is a bit warped.
They look like they fell over or something fell on them pretty hard.
[[Back out.->Dining Room]]There are several cabinets along the kitchen walls and below in the counters.
I open up all of them one at a time. Each one has its contents knocked over and strewn about, as if someone was knocking them out of the way trying to find something.
[[Back out.->Kitchen]]The counter tops seems to be pretty clean aside from a few permanent stains and a thin layer of dust.
Everything seems to in its place, the toaster, microwave and blender.
[[Back out.->Kitchen]]The stove is a simple four burner range with an oven and a broiler at the bottom.
The metal grates on top are a little rusty and have a bit of food residue on them, but other than that the stove is pretty clean.
[[Back out.->Kitchen]]The refrigerator is a black two door one with a drawer freezer at the bottom, its pretty nice actually.
Looking closer at it, I can see that something is off. The handles in the center seem to be slightly bent back and there is a small dent in the door right next to the handles.
It looks as if either something hit the fridge, or someone was thrown against it.
[[Back out.->Kitchen]]A pretty tall bookshelf, there is a few very dusty books, several video games and a few retro game manual and guides.
[[Back out.->Living Room]]The TV is a 40 inch flatscreen, the stand that it sits on has a game console, a couple controllers, some games, and also a cable box that doesn't look like it has been used in a long time.
I can swear that the TV stand used to be more to the right, and its also not centered with the couch.
[[I think I'll readjust it.->Moving the TV Stand]]A simple couch that can fit two people comfortably or three if you tried.
It has two cushions to sit on and two throw pillows in each corner. But the pillow on the right is facing the wrong way, they both have the same design on one side, but that one is facing the wrong way.
[[I should flip it around.->Flipping the Pillow]]I carefully slide the TV stand to the left, so that it is centered with couch.
After the stand is moved I notice somemthing odd that the stand was covering.
On the carpet there is a bright white stain that looks like it was recent.
Is this spot bleached? Nothing else could leave a stain like that. But what was being cleaned up? Did someone try to cover their tracks?
[[Back out.->Living Room]]I pick up the throw pillow in order to flip it, but I notice a strange bright white stain on the back of the couch that the pillow was covering.
The stain looks fairly recent. Is this a bleach stain?
What was there before the bleach though? Was someone trying to cover something up?
I put the pillow back.
[[Back out.->Living Room]]I walk over to the large stone that is laying by the side of the house.
This is an odd place for a stone like this there's no other ones like it around, and the only other things over here are a garden hose and a shrub.
[[I guess I could move the stone over.->Moving the Stone]]The old basketball hoop, Nathan and I would go out here and shoot some baskets whenever we were bored. We also had some of our best talks when we were doing it.
As I'm reminiscing, I notice something laying right next to the base of the hoop.
I walk over to it and take a closer look.
This is Nathan's hunting knife, the one he always bragged about having.
How did it get out here? I look at the knife again and see that it has red stains on it.
Is this blood? Did someone actually threaten Nathan enough, that he had to use it?
I could also take a look at those [[lawn chairs.->Lawn Chairs]]
[[Go back.->Outside 2]]I walk over to the lawn chairs and the small table. During long nights we would come out here, sit down, talk and have couple drinks.
It was a simple thing but it was nice and it had meaning to us.
I guess I can check out the [[basketball hoop.->Basketball Hoop]]
[[Go back.->Outside 2]]I pick up the stone and put it to the side. Underneath it is a partly buried metal box.
I dig out the the small container, there's no lock on it, so I open it.
Inside is a some kind of key and a paper.
I look at the paper and start reading it.
The paper is from Nathan's mother, it says that she left him all the money she had made from her business that she has been running for most of her life. The key is the access key used to get into the vault where the money is stored which is all the way in New York.
As I take the key and paper, [[I can hear footsteps behind me.->Turn Around]]Right when I turn around I see someone jumping at me with a blunt weapon.
[[Should I dodge?->Dodge Attack]]
Or
[[Should I block the attack?->Blocking the Attack]]I run back over to the open lot and wait for the assailant to catch up. I need to unarm them.
They catch up to me and take a big downward swing with their weapon.
Without thinking I catch the weapon with both of my hands and pull it away with all my strength.
I was able to take the weapon out of their hands, but they quickly go for a tackle.
They take me down and go for my throat. I use all my strength to prevent them from strangling me.
That is when I am able to see their face. Wait I know who this is.
"You! You're Nathan's brother, Jason!"
He's shocked that I know his name, and weakens his grip. I take that opportunity to throw him off of me.
[[I should go for his weapon.->Retrieving the Weapon]]
[[I should go for the knife by the basketball hoop.->Retrieving the Knife]]I jump and roll to the side, barely dodging their attack.
The person hits the wall of the house and staggers. But they quickly recover.
I keep my guard up and begin shouting at them.
"Who are you!? Did you kill Nathan!? What do you want!?"
They say nothing, instead they charge me again.
[[I need to get into the open.->Running Back to the Lot]]I run over to his weapon and pick it up. Then I turn back around and see he is about to charge me again. I have to take him down.
He begins charging me, and right when he is about to tackle me again, I go for one big swing.
I hit him straight in the gut, he goes down grunting in pain.
He's too winded to get up, so I decide to quickly call the police.
"You're done Jason, the police are on their way, and I have solid evidence that you killed Nathan".
"How could you kill your own brother!? Why did you do it?!"
Jason sits up and finally starts to talk.
"Isn't it obvious? You read that paper in the box, our mother left him with everything and she left me absolutely nothing! Do you know how that feels!?"
"That's no excuse to kill your own flesh and blood! And how can you be surprised that she left you nothing? The way Nathan talked about you, it sounds like you were a crappy son and never did anything with your life!"
[[Jason looks at me with a dumbfounded and angry face.->Final Hit]]"It doesn't matter what you say. You're not getting out of here alive!"
Jason gets up and tries to charge me once again, but this time I dodge out of the way and hit him right in the back of the head with the weapon.
He goes down, he's knocked out cold.
As I throw the weapon down I start to hear sirens. [[The police are finally here.->Ending 1]]Several police cars pull up to the house and all the officers get out of their vehicles.
One of the the officers approaches me and asks me what happend.
I explained everything to her. What I had found under the stone, how Jason attacked me and that he was the one who murdered Nathan.
The officer says that they have to take Jason and I both to the station for questioning. But that's okay, I know everything now.
I can finally get justice for my best friend.
[[...->End Card]]The End
Thanks for playing!I run over the basketball hoop and pick up the hunting knife.
I turn back around and see Jason running towards me. I have to take him down.
As he approaches I ready my self with the knife.
Here goes nothing.
"You're not getting out of here alive!" Jason shouts.
He goes for a strong punch. Without thinking I dodge his attack and with both of my hands on the knife [[I jab it into his stomach.->Stabbing Jason]]Jason stops suddenly, he looks down at the knife.
I pull out the knife, he holds onto his wound and falls to his knees.
I then quickly call the police and tell them what's going on.
"It's over Jason the police are on their way. I know everyting, I found evidence that you killed Nathan."
Jason starts softly laughing.
"What's so funny? You're done."
"Heh...heh, you idiot. *cough* You think you're gonna win this. You stabbed me, and when the police arrive and see me on the ground lifeless and that knife in your hand, it'll be over for you. *cough* They won't listen to anything that a murderer has to say."
"No but, you killed Nathan and I have proof!"
"*cough* It doesn't matter. *cough* You killed me and your justice is over."
Jason then coughs out blood, falls over and takes his last breath.
[[He's...->Ending 2]]...dead.
He's right the police will never listen to me now that I killed him.
"What have I done!?"
"Damn it, now I'll never get justice for Nathan!"
As I'm yelling at myself in guilt I hear sirens. The police are here.
It's over.
[["I'm sorry Nathan. I failed you."->Bad End Card]]You were not able to get justice for your friend.
The End.
Thanks for playing.
[[Return to the beginning?->Opening/Introduction]]I walk back to the middle of the lot and spot something over by the side of the house.
It looks like some sort of [[stone.->Stone]]
I should check it out.I decide to give up on this investigation and head back home.
The police already ruled Nathan's death a suicide I shouldn't get anymore involved.
Sorry, Nathan I wish I could do more.
[[...->Give Up End Card]]I shield myelf with my arms and the impact of the weapon knocks me down on my back.
Before I can do anything the person quickly stands over and begins to beat me with the weapon.
I lay there helpless while the person continues to pummel me with their weapon.
Is this it? Is this how [[I die?->Ending 3]]As my life flashes before my eyes the assailant prepares to make the final blow.
I'm sorry Nathan I wasn't able to catch your killer.
I failed you.
[[...->Death End Card]]Your were killed by the assailant and were unable to get justice for your friend.
The End.
Thanks for playing.
[[Return to the beginning?->Opening/Introduction]]You decided to give up on your investigation.
If there was killer they will run free now.
You did not get justice for your friend.
The End.
Thanks for playing.
