Your eyes dart back and forth from the road ahead to your phone in your right hand. You don't usually drive distracted, but you were in such a rush this morning that you forgot to put on a song and driving without music sounds near impossible in morning [[traffic]]. You briefly look down to the screen and see you were last listening to Motzart while working. You could just [[select this]], or keep looking for [[something else]]You tap Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major. At least you don't need to sit in silence anymore. Driving to [[work]] [[school]] is usually monotnous. You tap your playlists and scroll to find something just right--- *cue crashing noises* *cue [[sirens]]*You pull into an underground parking garage as the gate behind you screeches shut and park. You walk over to the elevator, which takes you to the 36th floor of a Manhattan skyrise overlooking the upper west side. You don't come to the office much, but you have an important meeting today and need to overlook its preceedings to ensure today's events run smoothly. You've jotted down a few things you'd like to accomplish: [[Call Edgar]] [[Check monthly financial report]] [[Fire Jane]]You pull into the circle drive in front of Manhattan Elementary and Middle School. Your 8 year old son waves hello to you and hops into the back seat. You see he was just as healthy as he was an hour ago when the nanny took him to school. He's quite the hypochondirac recently, but you know his tutor can go over missed material later. Usually you would take him back home, but you're late and need to get to [[work]].Your eyes slowly begin to open, the streams of light force their way in. You're naseous and confused. There's a bandage on your left temple. The room around you is white and fluorescent. Your neck is throbbing. Finally, you jolt awake, realizing where you are and what must have happened. You yell for a nurse. You ask her frantically, "where's my [[son]]?" You pull your cell phone out of your pocket and call Edgar. The line rings a few times then goes to voicemail. You hang up annoyed. You've been to the the maintenance office twice in the past week, which is usually the interns' job. Edgar, head of maintenance, has been avoiding your calls regarding the bathroom leak for weeks. You wanted to resolve this before meetings today, as it makes a bad impression. Now you decide to: [[Check monthly financial report]] [[Fire Jane]] [[Go to the conference room]]You walk into your office and sit at your glass desk. You login to your desktop then sign into the company bank account report page. You only check about once a month since accounting is in charge of overseeing the campany's finances. You see charges for office supplies, ads, etc. You almost close out the page until you notice an uncategorized $1,300 charge made last week. You call in Linda, head of accounting to confront [[her]].You tell your secratary, Dave, to have Jane meet you in your office. However, he tells you that she hasn't come in yet. You look at your watch, it's 10:45 am. Jane should've been here at least an hour ago. You ask him to call her to see where she is. Dave says he's called twice and she hasn't responded. You find this odd but brush it off and [[Call Edgar]] [[Check monthly financial report]] [[Go to the conference room]] The nurse sternly tells you to calm down as you keep asking where your son is. You feel so much shame and remorse for using your phone while driving when he was in the back seat. After a few minutes, you begin to calm and impatiently look at the nurse, awaiting an answer. She asks you what happened at work the previous day. You grow impatient with this question, as she hasn't even acknowledged the more pressing issue. The annoyance is clear on your face, to which the nurse responds "this is very [[important]]."You furrow your brows, most of your memory is pretty hazy. You begin to focus and try to recall what happened at [[work]].You try to remember what happened next, but your head is pounding. The doctor walks in and tells you that it's typical to experience temporary amnesia after a high impact car accident. You ask him exactly what happened. He tells you that you were T-boned by a drunk driver. You find this odd, given it was around 9:30 am at the time of the accident. Your mind immediately goes back to the more pressing issue. You ask the doctor where your son is and if he's [[okay]].Linda comes in smiling and asks how your weekend was. You don't answer the question and sit her down across from her. You turn your monitor to face her and ask about the charge. She puts on her glasses and leans towards the screen, furrowing her brows. Linda tells you she hadn't noticed the charge until now. This irritates you, as you suspect she isn't being completely honest. You ask her how this is, given her primary task within the company is to oversee its finances. Linda retracts into her chair and sighs. She scratches her temple and admits that she's been spending so much time organizing the annual gala budget, that for the past three months she's tasked the accounting intern to comb through the daily spending reports, claiming it's the most tedious part of her job. You [[accept this and send her out]] [[reprimand her and send her out]] [[fire her on the spot]]You tell her you understand, not to do it again, and tell her she's excused. A look of relief crosses her face as she apologizes while walking back to her office. now you [[Call Edgar]] [[Fire Jane]] [[Go to the conference room]] You feel your temper boiling up. You tell Linda that this is extremely irresponsible and that interns aren't trained to handle a multi-million dollar company's finances. You threaten to give her position to Allen, the new hire, and send her out. Linda apologizes, looks down, and goes back to her office. Now you [[Call Edgar]] [[Fire Jane]] [[Go to the conference room]] Your tempter takes control and you tell Linda she has made her last mistake. This pattern of irresponsible behavior of hers has cost the company nearly $4000. You tell her to pack her office and that she will be officially off payroll in 2 months. Linda tries to object but you don't acknowledge her pleas. Eventually, she resigns and walks out. Now you [[Call Edgar]] [[Fire Jane]] [[Go to the conference room]] Your eyes meet the doctor's. She looks down, then back up at you with sad eyes. She tells you that your son is in critical condition and has been put into a medically induced coma. You feel your voice crack and immediately feel at fault for your distracted driving. Had you paid more attention, you would have seen the driver who hit you and maybe could have swerved out of the way. The doctor excuses herself and says that NYPD detectives would like to speak with [[you]]. Two detectives walk in wearing perm pressed suits, equipped with notepads and pens. The older one sits in a chair next to the foot of your bed. He tells you that after inspecting the scene of the accident, it looked like a planned wreck. You're confused by this. People don't plan to have a car accident. You ask the detective what this means. He tells you that the force of impact shouldn't have been fatal, but the other man's airbags didn't deploy properly and his inebriated state made him more sensitive to impact. Upon investigating his phone records and a file found in his trunk, it looks like someone payed the man $1300 to hit the back, driver's side. The detective adds that after going through your personal bank statements you were almost ruled out as a suspect, until they discovered a $1,300 check from the company in the file found in the man's trunk. They claim that, judging from the email exchanged between the man and an anonymous user, the $1,300 was a downpayment. They then ask you if you know anything about this. You [[tell them no]] [[get upset at them for accusing you of harming your son]]The two detectives look at eachother and the younger one, who has been silent this whole time, jots something down in his notepad. They run through a series of more questions, but pretty soon seem to realize you knew nothing about the attack. You don't hear from them for another [[week]].Your temper starts coming out again. How dare they think you would do anything to harm your son? You tell them that they have things completely backwards, and that they need to learn to correctly do their jobs. One of the detectives asks the nurse if your vitals have been stabalized, to which she responds yes. They tell you they need to take you in for further [[questioning]].You get a call from the police station and pick up. A voice you don't recognize starts speaking, you realize it must be the younger detective. He tells you that they have video evidence of a meeting between a woman and the man who hit you from two weeks ago. They believe this is the exchange that led to the attempted murder of your son. You feel a kick of addrenaline and ask who the woman is. The detective tells you that you need to come to the station to see if you can identify the [[woman]].The detectives take you to a small room in the police station. They hound you with questions for the next three hours; your head is pounding. By the end of questioning you're exhausted and ask if you can go home. The younger detective, speaking for the first time, tells you that you're being put under arrest for conspiring [[murder]].You go into the station and look at the video. The two are in a parked car, the woman is wearing sunglasses. Her features look like 2 people you know, or at least you think. You can barely make out her face, but after observing her mannerisms closely you conclude that [[you don't know her]] You believe it must be someone irresponsible and spiteful, so [[It's Jane!]] You have a gut feeling that [[It's Linda!]]A few months pass. You haven't been to work since the accident. You've turned the company over to your younger brother, who has wanted to take your position since it was passed down from your father. Your son's condition severely declined overnight a couple weeks ago and he passed away in his sleep. Had he woken up, he would have had severe brain damage from the impact. You visit the police station almost daily to get updates on the case. They haven't made any arrests, but they have a suspect. They believe the woman was an ex intern who was fired for continuous tardiness. However, you don't believe it was her, as she moved to Houston and started working for Deloitte soon after you asked her to leave. Two years later the case remains unsolved. You're immediately enraged after noticing the woman's dark hair and sharp features. You believe it must be Jane, the company's soon to be ex Public Relations executive. You had planned on firing her after she bought $150,000 worth of social media advertising that you learned barely got viewed upon running analytics. You inform the detectives of who you believe it is and go back [[home]].You look at the screen very closely. You can hardly believe it, you don't want to believe it. You notice a dragon tattoo on the side of the woman's neck. You vividly remember interviewing Linda and telling her she'd need to do a better job covering it if she wanted to work for the firm. You run through the reasons in your head of why she would do such a thing. She already had a high paying position in the company and, though you're known for your temper, you've never severely blown up at her. You inform the detectives and return home, still puzzled by the [[video]]The next day you recieve a call from the detectives. They tell you that they went to Jane's house to question her and that she had an alabi, proving her innocence. They then inform you that your brother has cashed $500,000 of the company's savings and fled to Canada. You're shocked by this. They then inform you that it has since been uncovered that your brother and Linda were having a secret affair for months and that she has fled with them. 4 years pass and the couple is not found. A year later, your brother dies unexpectadly of a stroke and Linda, heartbroken and out of money, turns herself in for conspiring to murder your son so that you would step down from your top position and your brother could take control of the company. You recieve a call from the detectives the next day. They inform you that they obtained a warrant to search through Linda's home while questioning her. She admits to nothing, but a checkbook that matches the one used to pay the man from the car accident is found in her trash. They then went through her cell phone records and found that her and your brother have been carrying on with a secret affair for months. The police then went to question your brother, who was located at the bank trying to cash $500,000 of the company's savings. You feel heartbroken and betrayed. The couple is arrested and are awaiting trial. You're held in jail for a couple nights until paying a $500,000 bail. You hire an extremely reputable lawyer who claims that you love your son and would never do anything to bring harm to him in court. However, the prosecutor's case includes a drawing your son did of you: You're big, angry, and towering over him. He wrote next to the image about how you get so angry when he leaves his legos out and how he's scared of you. This breaks your heart. After 4 days of court, you're found guilty mainly on the grounds that you're known to have a temper and the $1300 check. 2 years later, on your second appeal, new DNA evidence proves your innocence. The thumb prints on the check don't match yours. You are released and the true perpetrator is never found.
