In this thesis, I consider painting and its uses.

Art being inextricable from one’s own story is foundational in my practice. The moment that I am in—my situation, my emotion, my thoughts, and my interests—are material for play and creativity. I embrace the irrational.

This thesis is an investigation of the works Ahram Park completed in conjunction with a

spring, 2017, MFA, thesis exhibition. It examines the implications of gesture,

experience, and image as subject. The photographs on exhibit consider the intersection

of these conditions.

The thesis describes work by the artist and locates his semantic, semiotic, and philosophical interests. By describing photographs by Jacob Riis, Walker Evans, and Minor White, the thesis suggests the inherent complexity of the photographic medium and it's paradoxical capacity to manufacture index and suggest metaphor concurrently.

Ivy Ridge is an experimental documentary film that uses collaboration and memory to create a psychological depiction of life inside therapeutic boarding schools. In an act of resistance, four former students from the Academy at Ivy Ridge return to the defunct facility in upstate NY to retroactively tell their stories. The abandoned building contained personal files which were used in the recounting of the events that occurred.
