Inspired by Dr. Ronald E. McNair’s contributions as an outstanding scholar and representative of underrepresented communities of color, the Challenger was founded in 2019 to provide McNair Scholars the opportunity to publish and share their research. The overwhelming positive response it received allowed the Challenger to expand its publishing program to all Undergraduate Research Hub Programs (URH) Scholars at UC San Diego. In 2023, further expanded our scope of reach by becoming a journal on the eScholarship platform and changing our name from "Challenger: A McNair Scholars Paper Series" to "Challenger Research Journal".
