English Literacy Levels of Child Care Providers

Abstract

Using the document literacy scale from the Tests of Applied Literacy Skills (TALS), this study finds that the English literacy skills in a sample of child care teachers and providers varied widely, from “highly proficient” to “extremely limited.” English literacy levels were significantly associated with quality of care offered to young children.
