This study examines the health insurance coverage, health status, and access to care of California women ages 18-64. Using data from the 2001 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS 2001), the study found differences in uninsured rates, health insurance coverage patterns, health status measures, and access to care among women by income level and race/ethnic group. Some of the key findings include: 1.7 million California nonelderly women -- 17% -- were uninsured in 2001 at the time of the survey. 69% of uninsured nonelderly women have family incomes below 200% of the Federal poverty level. Over one-third of uninsured women lack a place where they receive regular care.
