Abstract

A Slight Chance of Rain is a continuous side scroller which seeks to take the focus off of the quick twitch movement style of play within the genre, and place it on strategizing. A Slight Chance of Rain does this in part by making the obstacles that the player has to face not come from the horizontal plain of the character, but rather along the vertical plane. It also achieves this goal by giving the player the ability to naturally slow down and speed up their characters run pace, jump and booster jump over flying objects, slide under objects, boost forward, and slowdown and speed up time around the character within an expanding radius. The goal of A Slight Chance of Rain is to simply traverse through the city environments scoring the highest amount of points as possible by passing under the objects as close as you can without dying. With the help of your umbrella shield, which can be replaced throughout the game sporadically through the destruction of falling objects, you have the opportunity to do this without taking from your own health entirely. Once your umbrella shield is destroyed though, you become vulnerable to taking personal damage form the objects. The greater in size of the object, the greater the amount of damage to your umbrella or health is given. To encourage replay and further risk, you have the opportunity to replay levels to increase your score for each.
