In the second of a two-part series the authors focus on solutions to the effects of growing income inequality on the education and thus life chances of low-income students. Their report comes from the second part of their book, Restoring Opportunity: The Crisis of Inequality and the Challenge for American Education (Harvard Education Press, 2014). The authors proffer the work at three schools that are using research-based principals to successfully help students close learning gaps. They call on American education leaders to use the new and stronger, curricular scaffolding and assessments of the Common Core State Standards as well as greater funding where necessary. © 2014.
