Based on research conducted as of January 1, 2009, Georgia has no state statute prohibiting public or private discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender expression. Furthermore, Georgia courts have issued no judicial rulings that prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender expression in either the public or private contexts. A few municipalities such as Atlanta and Doraville have created their own statutes protecting either sexual orientation or gender expression, and Georgia courts have left these laws undisturbed.1 At least one municipality has introduced an “anti-gay” measure.
