SOURCE PROVENANCE OF AN OBSIDIAN ARTIFACT AND X-RAY FLUORESCENCE (XRF) COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS OF A CERAMIC SHERD FROM LA 159019, EDDY COUNTY, SOUTHEASTERN, NEW MEXICO
Abstract
Analyzed here is one obsidian artifact assigned to Valles Rhyolite (Cerro del Medio) from the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico and one ceramic sherd with a high alkaline composition (i.e. Na, Ca, K) that suggests a sedimentary origin rather than silicic (i.e. granitoid) residual clay origin (Table 1 and Figure 1; see discussion).
