The Prince of Malabo
Abstract
The Prince of Malabo is a 26 minute film that explores Equatorial Guinea's economic rise and the challenges it faces through the life of its new vice president, Teodoro Nguema Obiang, who has spent more than $300 million on mansions, private jets and luxury automobiles over the last 10 years. Obiang's father, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, is the world's longest serving head of state, in power since a 1979 coup d'etat. Obiang currently faces money laundering charges in the United States and France.
