Abstract

The present and the future of Healthcare are digital. This dissertation presents three dimensions of the intersection of Information Systems and Healthcare. First, we examine the impact of peer influence on user engagement in a mobile application. Second, we focus on access to remote care for underserved populations. We develop a difference-in-difference analysis to study the effect of the transition to telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic on access to healthcare among Hispanic and Latino patients with diabetes. Finally, we investigate the role of patient portals in reducing health disparities. We implement a mediation analysis to further understand the effect of digital literacy and language on access to telehealth. Overall, our results show the positive role of digital literacy and telehealth adoption in reducing health inequalities. In conclusion, this dissertation aims to shed light on the role of Information Systems within the digital Healthcare space.
