Aguas Malas: Border Politics and the International Wastewater Plant

Abstract

This capstone project is a documentary entitled “Aguas Malas: Border Politics and the International Wastewater Plant“, which explores the cross-border sewage pollution problem between the U.S. and Mexico. Inspired by a visit to the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, the film is a case study in how social, cultural, economic, and political forces can clash in a transnational setting. The accompanying paper provides background on the International Wastewater Treatment Plant and the cross-border sewage pollution problem. The documentary captures the key elements of the cross-border sewage issue, such as the political battles that were exacerbating the pollution problem.
