A possib le criterion for visual recognition thresholds

Abstract

SIO Reference 59-65. This report describes a theoretical analysis of the detection and recognition capability of an ideal mosaic detector. The relationship between detection and recognition for this idealized mosaic is used to hypothesize a criterion for the threshold of visual recognition. A brief psychophysics experiment was performed as a first test of this hypothesis. The degree of success and the limitations of the test are discussed.
