La producción cultural del inmigrante y su creación de un nuevo sujeto ideal nacional

Abstract

In contemporary Spanish society we see the constant arrival of immigrants who build their own communities, thereby creating a whole new set of intercultural interactions. Spanish literature and cultural productions have picked up this trend or creating immigrant characters, making it more common to see their presence in different media. Yet many of these narratives are created from an hegemonical point of view, creating an artificial voice for this group. Although well intention, it reflects the difficulties these subjects face when trying to enterer a new society an become accepted within it.With this project I bring forward a group of voices from immigrants, or Spanish nationals whose families are immigrants. In these works, we can see how the author, along with the characters they create, push forward a narrative of inclusion, not as a similar, but as a new national ideal, that encompasses more than the traditional hegemonic representation, an ideal open to interpretation rather than based on a set, very restrictive characteristics. I analyze the works of Quan Zhou Wu, Chenta Tsai, Victor Omgba, Basel Ramsis, Kalilu Jammeh, Melibea Obono, Donato Ndongo, J.M. Quizembe, and Mo Toufali.
