The Portuguese colonial presence on the Indian subcontinent began with the conquest of Goa in 1510 by Afonso de Albuquerque and endured until Portuguese India’s reunification with independent India in December of 1961. Those 451 years of rule made the Portuguese the longest-lasting colonial power in India. This article presents resources for Portuguese India, many of which have already been digitized, for those Latin Americanists looking to make larger historical connections among nations in the Global South.
