ENERGY-DISPERSIVE X-RAY FLOURESCENCE (EDXRF) WHOLE ROCK ANALYSIS OF MAJOR, MINOR AND TRACE ELEMENTS FOR ARCHAIC PERIOD ARTIFACTS FROM THE TULAROSA BASIN, SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO

Abstract

The analysis here of mainly Early and Middle Archaic projectile points from a number of sites or site groups in the Tularosa Basin of southern New Mexico is dominated by dacite raw materials, and a few Socorro hydrothermally altered rhyolites (Table 1, Figures 1 through 3). One of the dacite artifacts was produced from the San Antonio Mountain source and one possibly from the Newman Dome source, both part of the Taos Plateau Volcanic Field in northern New Mexico (Shackley 2011a; Table 1 and Figure 3 here).
