Rights, Commandments and the Literature of Citizenship
Abstract
The Bill of Rights and the Ten Commandments exist on two sides of the divide between the religious and the secular, and between regimes based on the heteronomy of God and the autonomy of human subjects. Yet the two documents speak to each other in unexpected ways, suggesting new connections between rights and obligations.
