“The Open Ego: Joyce, Woolf, and the ‘Mad’ Subject”

Abstract
Provides both a new theory of the "open ego," following Jacques Lacan's lead, but also James Joyce's, using a fresh new reading of Joyce's story "The Dead" from the Dubliners. Contrasts the "madness" of the writers Virginia Woolf and James Joyce based on their grasp of sexuation.
