8-Element Direct-Conversion Multi-Antenna Receiver with Code-Modulated Path- Sharing

Abstract

An 8-element 65 to 75 GHz multi-antenna receiver is demonstrated in a 0.18µm SiGe BiCMOS process. The receiver is capable of performing spatial multiplexing, spatial diversity, and beamforming. A unique code-modulation scheme enables the linear combination of all code-modulated received signals. A single down-conversion/baseband/ADC is shared between all the RF channels. Each receiver channel has a front end Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) with >32dB gain and a noise figure of <5.5dB between 65 to 75GHz. Receiver array operates from 1.8V and 3.2V power supplies and consumes less than 1W.
