Submission Guidelines

Submissions

Dotawo seeks notes, articles, and special issue proposals on all subjects related to Nubia and its sister civilizations. We are particularly interested in submissions with cross-cultural, diachronic, or multi-disciplinary approaches. We seek scholarly work on topics spanning the millennia from Nubian prehistory to the modern day, and accept submissions in English and, in principle, French, German, Arabic and modern Nubian languages. Proposals book-length studies, and multi-authored volumes can be sent through the Dotawo imprint at open-access publisher punctum books.

Who Can Submit

Anyone may submit an original article to be considered for publication in Dotawo: A Journal of Nubian Studies provided they own the copyright to the work being submitted or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. Authors are the initial owners of the copyrights to their works (an exception in the non-academic world to this might exist if the authors have, as a condition of employment, agreed to transfer copyright to their employer).

Review Policy

Dotawo is a double open peer-reviewed publication. The editors solicit recommendations for peer reviewers from its authors and the editorial board. Each contribution is reviewed by two separate reviewers within four months after reception of the first draft. Editors work collaboratively with authors to improve the final product.

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Dotawo: A Journal of Nubian Studies, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that they will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Dotawo: A Journal of Nubian Studies. If you have concerns about the submission terms for Dotawo: A Journal of Nubian Studies, please contact the managing editor.
