A genomic analysis of population relationships & genetic diverity in Native Americans

Abstract

This talk will discuss inferences from genetics about the evolutionary history of Native American populations. We have studied 422 individuals from 29 Native American groups at 678 genetic markers spread across the human genome. Patterns of genetic diversity in these data reflect a signature of dispersal from Siberia, and they provide insight into the number of major migration events, the possible migration routes taken by expanding populations, and the relationships among extant Native American groups.
