Abstract
Bringing together Black Diaspora Studies and Critical Refugee Studies, my dissertation explores the knowledge production and community organizing work of East African Refugee communities in San Diego. Focusing on how lifemaking emerges as a creative practice of care, placemaking, and solidarity, my study argues that Black refugees challenge the racial geography of the region.
