The major goal of the project was the development of recirculation systems and diets for the California halibut (Paralichthys californicus). Specific objectives included the determination of bioengineering design parameters (rates of oxygen consumption and ammonia and urea production in tank culture), the characterization of major nutrient requirements and the development of a suitable practical diet; and the design and testing of a prototype recirculation system for the commercial culture of California halibut.
