About Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative at Berkeley

The Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative, or BPSHI, consists of a group of wellness advocates devoted to eliminating health and social disparities within underserved and underprivileged populations by creating spaces of community engagement and providing access to health education for the betterment of the mind, body, and spirit. The three pillars of our organization are (1) advocacy and social justice, (2) community and outreach, and (3) health screening and awareness.

Modeled off of the work done by Bhagat Puran Singh in Pingalwara, we aim to understand our community’s health and help provide the tools necessary to create healthy lifestyles. At our clinic visits, we take social histories, check vitals, and provide a space for the community to engage with on-site health professionals, like nurses and physicians. We have also implemented surveys and interviews which target specific health issues, like mental health, cardiovascular health, diabetes, etc, so we can better gauge our community’s needs.
