Peer-reviewed articles

Geodynamica publishes original research articles in the field of geodynamics. Please make sure your study fits within the scope of Geodynamica prior to submitting a new manuscript. The following types of peer-reviewed articles are considered:

Regular Article

Manuscript describing the context, motivation, methods, and results of original scientific research in the field of geodynamics.

Research Letter

Short article that presents one or two main original ideas relevant to the field of geodynamics. As it is shorter than a regular article, it is often handled more quickly than a regular article (without guarantee).

Technical Report

Manuscript that presents novel technical development relevant to the field of geodynamics (modeling tools, material simulations, etc.). 

Perspective Letter

Manuscript that describes the authors’ views on current state of the art and future directions in topics of relevance to geodynamics. 

Review Paper

Manuscript covering past/present work and synthesizing research in a topic of broad interest to the Geodynamica community. Please feel free to contact the editors to propose reviews, we warmly welcome your suggestions.

Comment

Letter that criticizes or challenges the findings of a scientific study previously published in Geodynamica.

Geodynamica for all

Popular science reviews on topics in geodynamics written for the general public (suggested at the secondary school level) with engaging open-access graphics for use in teaching. Manuscripts can be submitted in the language of the authors’ choosing. Please reach out to the editorial team before submitting a manuscript in a language other than English to make sure that the necessary expertise is available. The editorial team will then try to accommodate the language and provide translations into other languages, including English.

For any of the abovementioned article types, the peer review process can be prioritized if a sufficient reason is given in the cover letter to the editor (e.g., if one of the authors is finishing their PhD soon or if the scientific community would benefit from quickly publishing the finding).

By default, the reviews will be published online together with the final version of the article under a selected license (e.g., CC-BY 2.0), unless the reviewer disagrees.  

There are no strict regulations regarding manuscript length. Nevertheless, we strongly encourage authors to restrict their manuscript’s length to below 10,000 words. Manuscripts that exceed this limit will be considered upon justification to the editorial team.

From the Community

Our “From the Community” articles are non-peer-reviewed pieces screened by the editorial team and include (but are not limited to) the following types of contributions:

Editorial

Updates from any of the organizational teams of Geodynamica, including (but not limited to) the core team, the editorial team, the media team, and the technical team.

News & Views

Written for a broad scientific audience, these short communications (up to 1500 words) can include summaries of papers (published anywhere) to communicate their highlights to a wider audience. If you have an idea for a News & views article, please don’t hesitate to contact the editorial team.

Community Announcements

Events of interest for/affecting the Geodynamics community (meetings, workshops, software releases, etc.). Please contact the editorial team to share your announcement.
