Berkeley Interdisciplinary Migration Initiative

BIMI's new policy brief, "Punjab: In the Bay and Beyond", by Mehnaz Kaur Grewal discusses the rich history of Punjab, the differing drivers in migration for Punjabis, and how San Francisco, Berkeley, and Stockton were critical sites of contemporary Punjabi Sikh migration. Mehnaz explains the "long journey of Punjabi Sikh migration to the United States, characterized by racial violence and discriminatory legislation, but also by courageous acts of community and togetherness".
