Seeking Justice: Limited Tribal Jurisdiction in Cases of Sexual Violence

Using a hypothetical case, examines the legal options available to a Hopi woman raped by her non-Indian husband in the Hopi reservation in Coconino County, Arizona. The Hopi Tribal Government has no jurisdication over this crime and recommends filing either a Civil Protection Order or a Domestic Violence Restraining Order with the state of Arizona. The paper examines the pros and cons of either choice
