Wars have played a critical role in shaping the annals of History. However, their analytical provenance is primarily limited to the examination of their causes and consequences. Elucidation of the course of action only enters the analytical narrative intermittently, especially as an abridgement between the two general core components of the discussion. It must be diligently realized that wars have deeply influenced the structuration of our hoary antiquity, and therein lies the centrality of their historical significance. Recent developments in Game theory, Economics, Military Science and Geopolitics provision us with much-needed skillset to make informed forays in specific events of bygone eras, glean out formative details of conflicts with precision, and comprehend the complex interactions amongst myriad variables involved and of relevant interest. This paper shall attempt to utilize the data and diction provided by these varied disciplines in throwing a flood of light on the mysterious but epigraphically sanctified, and historically significant clash of Harṣa and Pulekeśin II, as recorded tangentially in literary and inscriptional references, and also broadly comment upon the nature of organized conflict and institutional warfare between differing polities and States in the Early Medieval Period of Indian History. The discussion herein shall illustrate novel features of pre-modern confrontations, unveil fascinating facets of Ancient Indian Military Knowledge, and will also complement the endeavor to broaden the horizons of Indian Historiography.
