A Statistical Approach to Natural Gas Leaks

Abstract

Natural gas serves as a source of energy to consumers throughout the state, and among the requirements of maintaining a reliable and safe gas pipeline network, one of the responsibilities of a gas utility is to manage pipeline leaks. This paper aims to gain an understanding of the leak data collected between the years 2011 and 2020 using three statistical analyses: fitting to a distribution, creating an OLS model and conducting principal component analysis.
