Multiple Representations: A Bibliography (89-11)

Abstract

This bibliography has been generated as part of the research effort of NCGIA research Initiative 3, "Multiple Representations".

Incorporated here are citations from journal articles, monographs and books, and technical reports on research in several disciplines, including computer science, cartography, and spatial modeling. The common thread is the exploration of methods by which to generate and utilize a single detailed database to produce and analyze graphical representations at many different scales and resolutions. Implications for map representations include problems of appropriate simplification and symbolization of both features and attributes, as well as problems of maintaining consistency throughout database update.
