Abstract
EVER SMALLER CHAMBERS treats the ways we understand each other, and are kept from these understandings, in a Digital Age world. Its stories explore in particular the many ways people become trapped – in relationships that aren’t working, bodies that no longer function, or even in cultural/religious/capitalistic expectations – and how they struggle with these restrictions. Especially where issues of technological entrapment come into play, many of these stories are drawn into examinations of the landscapes of online spaces where we can, by virtue of not having to reveal themselves, reveal ourselves most starkly. As a young, disabled queer woman, having spent much of my life drawn to the tantalizing promises of wish fulfillment offered by these kinds of “spaces,” I’m interested in the ways that such access can both expand and threaten our horizons.
