This thesis describes the background, compositional method and final result of three chamber works composed during the 2012-2013 academic year. These three works - entitled 3 Songs, Fear of Patterns and scene/sense - represent extensive research and practical experiment into the theories of Extended Just Intonation. In addition, this text gives insight into personal reactions and lessons learned along the way as the works cover much new ground in the field. While my method had no doubt been grounded in previously existing research and compositional/notational practices, the nature of my artistic approach and experience working within the UCSD Music community have garnered unique insight.
