Production of J (ψ) in p p scattering

Abstract

The hypothesis of a heavy-quark-antiquark meson (orthocharmonium) for the 3.1-GeV resonance leads, in the context of a general peripheral model, to predictions for the cross sections (and their energy dependence) for J () production. The p dependence is predicted to be quite different from that of the pion. At higher energies, charmed particles are expected to be produced in conjuction with each J (). Related problems are discussed. © 1975 The American Physical Society.
