EXAMINING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BIRTH DELIVERY METHODS AND OPIOID-RELATED EVENTS THROUGH NALOXONE DISPENSING IN AN MULTI-CENTER ELECTRONIC HEALTH COHORT
Abstract
Opioid-related events are a leading and preventable contributor to maternal mortality in the United States, with the postpartum period representing a high risk yet under-studied interval. Obstetric patients frequently receive opioid prescriptions following delivery; however, the incidence and drivers of postpartum opioid-related risks remain poorly defined within the available anesthesiology literature. This study aims to quantify postpartum opioid-related risk using real-world electronic health record data to inform opioid stewardship in obstetric anesthesia.
