Abstract

A tabletop hacking game implemented on AR and multiple minigames based on specific card interactions.

The gameplay involves two phases including a tabletop game and a virtual component represented by the 3 minigames that both players have to play when they fight each other for money. The player switches between tabletop games and mini-games throughout the gameplay. In addition to the AR design elements that hover over cards, creating a bridge between virtual and real part of the game which also illustrates the connection between hacking and real-world consequences. The goal of the tabletop game is to be very competitive and it introduces the player to the world of cyberwars and cybersecurity. In addition to that, the cards are designed in pixel art to convey the feeling of a virtual world of bits and bytes to the players. The gameplay of malware attacking the defence cards mimics the real-world scenario of attackers attacking the mainframe of another system. All that conveys an environment where the player imagines that he is a hacker or a cyber defense expert. He discovers new concepts through making meta-level strategic decisions on what types of cards to use and where to invest money.
