Desertion of the colonists of New Mexico 1601: 3d part

This third part actually preceded the first two parts. The viceroy commissioned an interrogatory from witnesses who had spent some time on the expedition to New Mexico and had returned to New Spain for various legitimate reasons. The witnesses attest to considerable unrest among the colonists, which was to culminate in the desertion of a majority. But the testimony is most interesting for the detailed descriptions of the customs and culture of the Pueblo Indians.
