Informaciones y recaudos que se hicieron en razón de la gente que se volvió de Nuevo México: tercera parte 28 al 31 de julio de 1601

Abstract

Chronologically this third part is the first of the three parts. The viceroy commissioned an interrogatory from witnesses who had spent some time on the expedition to New Mexico and had returned to New Spain for various legitimate reasons. The witnesses attest to considerable unrest among the colonists, which was to culminate in the desertion of a majority. But the testimony is most interesting for the detailed descriptions of the customs and culture of the Pueblo Indians.
