Abstract

Easterlies is a board game that focuses on the player being a merchant, buying and selling materials that they gather, all in hopes of having the most money at the end of the game. Players start out with the same amount of money and will buy cotton, gold, and oil, to get wealthier while traveling around the world. Our goal was to show the harsh realities of business and how players that have more money (large corporations/chains) have a much easier time expanding their profits, while players with less money (small businesses) have a much harder time catching up to competition and surviving in market. This is why we included elements of RNG (luck based systems) such as event cards, dice rolls, and artifacts; as business isn't solely on skill, but luck as well.
