Scotland in the Southland is the history of Scottish festivals in Southern California, using the oldest festival, the Costa Mesa ScotsFest, as a case study. It traces the development of Scottish festivals in the United States, investigates the culture of Scottish festivals and what it means to be "Celtic," and examines the music of Scottish festivals. Finally, it makes predictions about possible futures for Scottish festivals.
