Subic and Nuclear War at Sea

Abstract

The U.S. Naval Base at Subic Bay in the Philippines enables the U.S. government to escalate at will its military presence in the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf. It thus has the potential of entangling the Philippines in a U.S. war of Third World intervention. Its status will be negotiated in coming years as the treaty governing the U.S. bases in the Philippines is due to expire in 1991.
