In 1965, UC established a network of field stations and protected landscapes to provide examples of California’s ecological diversity for research and teaching. First known as the Natural Land and Water Reserves System, then the Natural Reserve System, the network published its printed Transect newsletter between 1982 and 2010. The organization became UC Nature in 2026; current e-newsletters can be found at https://ucnature.org/information/
