How are early-career researchers using Zotero? Which features do they consider to be advanced and would our including them in a future workshop be helpful? What common features are they not using? What are the differences and similarities across the disciplines?

These are the questions we sought to answer by interviewing a dozen of our campus graduate students with the help of a LAUC mini-grant to fund small incentives. We will share our recommendations for Zotero workshops based on our research.

Library exhibits are an excellent way to connect users to Library materials. With QR codes, smart phone users can connect to those materials instantly and at their point of need.

This poster illustrates our collaboration with our campus natural history museum to show how we used QR codes to provide a low-budget multimedia experience, while also highlighting library resources. We explain how to track usage of QR codes, and how to plan for smart phone compatibility with various digital file types and institutional authentication protocols.

This poster also suggests ways to provide access and information to users without smart phone access.

UCSC science librarians created a series of data management instructional modules aimed at upper division and graduate students. These were designed to be delivered in one-shot instruction sessions of twenty minutes each. The intent was to create one set of modules for researchers in any science department that would not require further disciplinary customization, and could also fit into an existing instructional program.

  We were able to launch a data literacy program on a shoestring, while training ourselves in this rapidly paced field. We integrated data management into our broader information literacy program, while also increasing awareness of our data management services offered by the Library.
