Alpha-channeling simulation experiment in the DIII-D tokamak

Abstract

An experiment of alpha-channeling simulation in the D-III-D tokamak was discussed. It was found that Alfvén instabilities can reduce the central magnetic shear via redistribution of energetic ions. It was shown that Alfvén modes alone selectively move some α particles to form a transport barrier, in addition to electron heating. It was suggested that they can susgtain a steady state internal transport barrier as demonstrated in the DIII-D tokamak experiment.
