Abstract

With the following stories, I seek to explore the effects of the imagination on the construction of individual and collective identity. Each character uses fantasy as a coping mechanism — to draw closer to others or to shield themselves, to insulate against the penetrative qualities of loss, failure and fear. Thematically, these stories probe the state of perpetual curiosity, loss, and the difficulties of growing into a world vastly different from the one you expected.
