The Role of Law in Environmental Protection in China: Recent Developments

Abstract

Law is a weak tool for environmental protection in China. Nonetheless, citizens and lawyers are using the law in a variety of creative ways to press for compensation, cessation of environmental harms, and restoration of environmental degradation. This conference article examines the benefits and shortcomings of legal approaches to environmental protection in China.
